...Prime? was born of the need to do something different, to experiment.

Prior to writing and recording the album I had been exposed to the music of French/African artist-wonder Angelique Kidjo, accordionist Kepa Junkera, and guitarist Dominic Miller, whose name one readily associates with Sting. Listening to these artists made me rethink some of the compositions I had had lying around, thinking I would never finish because I could not find the right voice. After a conversation with Dominic Miller, before a show he played in Sofia, Bulgaria, I realized that the nylon-string guitar would be driving force behind these melodies.

I wanted to create intricate compositions but deliver them in a mellower tone, as opposed to the tone I get from my 50watt amp. After I found the right guitar, I sat down and looked at the notes and archival recordings I had made in the past 3 years with fresh eyes (and ears). There I rediscovered the seeds for a song about belonging ("I Come Back to You"), a song that emulated African instruments ("Sofia, Mali"), a ballad ("Blossoms of Red"), a jazzy bagatelle ("Little BIG Thing"), a song about an energetic kid ("Ali's Dance")... All these made their way onto ...Prime? and all of which I am happy to finally be able to share with everyone.
